CEO Robbie Briggs on what has happened — so far — in a wild year of real estate

Each Friday, Robbie Briggs, CEO of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, writes about luxury, trends, business and more in the advertising pages of the Mansion section of The Wall Street Journal. Below is his letter of August 20, 2021.

FROM MY PERSPECTIVE

“Clients need trusted sources to help them navigate a fast-paced and low-inventory market.”

Those words of wisdom come from Philip White, the president and CEO of Sotheby’s International Realty. Philip knows a lot about real estate markets all over the world. And, he’s right: In this hot market, buyers and sellers need the leadership of professional agents more than ever.

The market is so robust that Philip just shared some eye-opening milestones with us from around the network, and I want to share a few with you. In the first half of 2021, Sotheby’s International Realty has:

Raised international sales volume by nearly 110 percent and expanded our presence in the Middle East and Caribbean, with plans for continued international growth.

Achieved a referral-volume increase of more than 170 percent, year over year.

Won a prestigious Webby Award for Best Real Estate website in the People’s Voice category and increased the brand’s YouTube viewership to nearly 20 million views, a record.

Here at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, we’ve hit some exciting midyear milestones, too. Just a few statistics, all compared to the prior year:

Our Ranch and Land division’s sales are up by a whopping 230 percent.

Our North office, which serves Plano, Frisco, McKinney and beyond, has seen an increase in sales of 150 percent. Our Turtle Creek office’s sales are up by 86 percent.

We are the top-selling brokerage in all of Oak Lawn, a Dallas neighborhood that is definitely trending. In Fort Worth, our average home-sales price is up a substantial 20 percent.

Overall, our brokerage’s total sales volume is up by a remarkable 65 percent — and our average home-sales price is up by 33 percent.

Yes, this is one of the hottest markets we have ever seen, in our 61 years and counting. If you are thinking about buying or selling, I know about 400 trusted sources right here in North Texas that you could talk to. As Philip White just said to every Sotheby’s International Realty agent around the world, their role as skilled advisors in a market like this is “more important than ever.”

I second that.
