FROM MY PERSPECTIVE
This last August I turned 70 — and at that milestone I made some important life decisions.
I have been blessed to have a wonderful career at the firm my father started in 1960. I took over in 1982 and grew us into a Sotheby’s International Realty affiliate by 2010. As they say, “It’s been a good run.”
Now, it’s time to make a few changes.
About five years ago, I made a strategic hire, knowing I would eventually step down as CEO: Russ Anderson joined our firm. As in the past, I hired the talent that exceeded my abilities in areas of necessity. The real estate business has changed and our company has grown in complexity, and I needed someone more savvy than I in business. Russ has a long background in finance, mortgage and running banks. He is also personable, bright and sophisticated. He is the perfect fit as our president and CEO, and as a Sotheby’s International Realty leader.
Two years ago, with Russ at my side, I sold the firm to the growing Peerage Realty Partners, which joins forces with established leaders in real estate and provides financial resources, strategic expertise, top technology and more. My decision set the brokerage on a trajectory with a well-versed and sound parent company. Canada-based Peerage also owns other top Sotheby’s International Realty affiliates across Canada, Chicago, California, Florida, New York State and more. Our network is stronger than ever.
Today, I have a new role and title: Founder, which will keep me active with developers, special clients and specific projects. I will also continue to help clients looking for the best agent to meet their needs — in D-FW for homes and commercial investments; across Texas for ranches and second homes; and around the world with Sotheby’s International Realty.
And, I will still be the writer of this letter from time to time, so don’t forget me.
I truly have been blessed — with an incredible team, powerful international network and great peers across the D-FW metroplex. The clients, agents and staff of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty have always been — and will always be — the very best.
