CEO Robbie Briggs: How Texans live like they're on vacation (even in that heat) every day of the year

HALL Arts Residences in DallasEach Friday, the executives of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty write about luxury, trends, business and more in the advertising pages of the Mansion section of The Wall Street Journal. Below is CEO Robbie Briggs' letter of May 12, 2023.

FROM MY PERSPECTIVE

“How do you all do it?”

We get that question a lot in North Texas, about living in a state where the summers are famously hot.

Here’s the answer: industrial-strength air conditioning inside and a lot of weather-warping tricks outside. Resort-style backyard living is an art here. We’ve got pools, fans, waterfalls, covered patios, pergolas and retractable screens. Sometimes we even plant palm trees back there, just to really drive home that chilled-out island illusion.

GolfingOur high-rises take summer living up a notch, some with cabanas by the pool, tennis courts and even more palms. No building does it better than HALL Arts Residences (pictured at top), the crown jewel in the Dallas Arts District. The 28-story superluxury tower has an Amenity Terrace with the most breathtaking views of buildings, clouds and sky. Up there, you can swim in the long infinity-edge pool, practice your putts on the open-air green (pictured), cook up burgers on the built-in grill and sit in the shade of a contemporary pergola, sipping a lemonade on a hot Texas day. (The alfresco terrace is an especially nice place to be in the fall and winter, too, thanks to the heated whirlpool and the flickering fire pit.) You can have a summer-afternoon massage, too, in the very well-air-conditioned Treatment Room. You’ll never know it’s 99 degrees outside.

Speaking of pools, did you know that cold-plunge pools are one of the trending amenities in superluxury homes now? There’s a great piece in the latest Luxury Outlook, the annual market report from Sotheby’s International Realty, all about the new must-haves. Come see what they are at luxuryoutlook.com.

In the meantime, we’ll be turning up the A/C and pouring those lemonades. Come see all our beautiful backyards at briggsfreeman.com. It’s no accident, by the way, that you can search our listings by the following amenities: pool, lakefront, waterfront, water view and more.

We Texans know how to live it up, inside and outside, all year long.
