The page-turner: President Russ Anderson on one great magazine and many great pleasures

Briggs Freeman MagazineEach Friday, the executives of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty write about luxury, trends, business and more in the advertising pages of the Mansion section of The Wall Street Journal. Below is president Russ Anderson's letter of April 14, 2023.

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S POINT OF VIEW

My love of wine is well-known around the office. No, I don’t drink it there, but I do talk about it a lot — and I may take the occasional peek from my desk at all the Sotheby’s wine auctions at sothebys.com. (There is a particularly intriguing sale of Champagnes and Bordeaux wines that closes next Friday, April 21. Let me tell you, there are some superstar bottles in it.)

You see, for me, a fine wine is one of life’s great pleasures. Another good one? A richly curated magazine. There is nothing like it. The tactile feel of the paper. The discovery as you turn the pages. The design of it all. Somehow, after enjoying one — really digging in — it feels like you’ve been on an adventure. And, there is always something to learn.

We’ve been busy collaborating with Sotheby’s International Realty again on our own informative adventure. It is called RESIDE magazine, and it is inside select North Texas subscriber copies of today’s Wall Street Journal. You can enjoy it digitally, too, at briggsfreeman.com/reside. Not only does it reveal more than 20 pages of some of our most exciting available listings and sold properties — everything from mansions to ranches — it is loaded with stories on everything from home design to art to cars. (You know, all the pleasurable things that go with your life.) In the new issue, you’ll find:

Inside the MagazineHow one couple amassed a jaw-dropping collection of American art and design.

The art genre that is getting a lot of attention.

A famous neighborhood in Paris, as seen by an insider.

Twelve amazing golf properties for sale around the world.

Reside MagazineThat’s another passion of mine: golf. You know, I could tell my wife that she is actually quite lucky that I’m into collecting wines instead of golf properties. Things could be much worse for our bank account! At least, that’s the logic I’m going to use on her if I accidentally win one of those bottles of Château Lafite 1998.

Enjoy every page of RESIDE magazine. Here’s to life’s pleasures, big and small.
